Topics are listed, including one for 'General' if you don't want to bother with categories. There are a few practical 'how to' videos on using the Community, which I would urge you to watch from the outset. They show you how to post a sketch or painting, and indeed how to manage your email notifications if you feel you don't want to follow every topic, but just keep up to date with certain ones.
