Spend time creating watercolour washes in your sketchbook, so that when you are out and about, you can find a suitable page to compliment the scene you wish to sketch. Think of it this way: half the work is done, you can relax and sketch on top of the wash, allowing the scene to appear from the page. Not happy with what you've done? Turn the page in your sketchbook and try again.
